Maldives
Maldives, also referred to as the Maldives, is an island nation in the area of the Indian Ocean-Arab Sea, a cluster of 1,190 coral islands scattered on 26 large coral atolls, which lie between Minicoy Island (southernmost Lakshadweep, India ) and the Chagos Archipelago. The islands are in the Laccadive Sea, about 700 kilometers (430 miles) southwest of Sri Lanka and 400 km (250 miles) southwest of India.
For most of its history, the Maldives has had an independent policy, despite three instances in which it was governed by external forces. In the mid-16th century, the Maldives was dominated by the Portuguese Empire for fifteen years. In the mid-seventeenth century, the Dutch Empire (Malabar) dominated the Maldives for four months. Finally, in the late nineteenth century, on the brink of war, the Maldives became a British protectorate from 1887 until 1965. The Dutch referred to the islands as "Maldivische Eilanden" while the British anglicized the local name for the islands for the first time time as Maldives and later to Maldives. The islands gained independence from the British Empire in 1965 and became a republic in 1968 ruled by a president and an authoritarian government.

tourism
A double ring of islands near the coast of India was one of the favorite places for early Arab explorers. Today, it is possible to get to know its Muslim heritage and outdoor markets, then relax on the beach, at the edge of the turquoise sea water.
The clear sandy beaches and warm blue sea form a unique and romantic setting, all that tourists seek in the Maldives archipelago. Destination for those looking for high temperatures and beautiful scenery, the country is composed of more than 1190 islands divided into 26 atolls in the Indian Ocean. In the capital, Male, the visitor finds good infrastructure and is easy to move between atolls. A perfect stay can be found in several hotels and resorts with bungalows and spas of great value for money. In the region there is the opportunity to practice a variety of water sports, such as surfing and windsurfing, as well as trips to one of the hundreds of uninhabited and paradisiac islands. Both in the North Atoll and South Male Atoll, one of the must-see experiences is diving. In the midst of enchanting underwater landscapes, lies the rich marine fauna, replete with species of colorful fish and corals.
But note: with lowlands, averaging only 2 meters above sea level, the Maldives are in danger of disappearing as a result of global warming. For this reason it is a pleasure to enjoy this beautiful country for having all the ingredients for those who want to enjoy a perfect honeymoon, very quiet to rest or simply to live a romance in a place of dreams.

Gastronomy
The cuisine of the Maldivian Archipelago is made up of simple dishes, since the fish and shellfish are fresh.
The main ingredient of this cuisine is the tuna that gets several names depending on its preparation.
You can also find more elaborate dishes such as shrimp soup that is prepared with an onion stew to which are added the prawns cleaned, the broth of meat and a spoon of curry.
The tropical fruits are delicious as for example the coconut, bananas and mangoes.
Typical sweets are made with eggs and butter and have their origins in Dutch cuisine.
For drinking you can take the refreshing fruit juices, beer and any imported alcoholic beverage.
