The first Carmelite to visit Chillán was Fr. Lazaro de Asunción. It was at the beginning of October 1901 when Fr. Juan Martín entered Chillán.

On December 12, 1910, the first stone was placed, in honor of the Virgen del Carmen.

In two and a half years the church was built and apart from the convent.

Brother Rufo was the Architect and Director of the work.

The temple of the Carmelites is still there today, rising Majestic with its incomparable Gothic beauty.
