It offers a variety of first class restaurants, pubs and discos to taste and enjoy the Buenos Aires night.
Among the attractions of the area, the Recoleta Cemetery stands out without a doubt: an atypical place, with a dazzling architectural wealth, from vaults to mausoleums. There rests the Argentine aristocracy, presidents, celebrities and politicians. But the most visited grave is that of Eva Duarte de Perón (Evita), who was paradoxically a symbol for the Argentine working class and ended up resting her days in this bourgeois cemetery.
Recoleta is a neighborhood in the north-central area of the City of Buenos Aires, known as an elegant or refined neighborhood, for its large buildings, its aristocratic cemetery, and its museums and art exhibitions.
It has a privileged location in the city, between the obelisk and Palermo, between Retiro and the waterfront. Close to all the attractions of the city, in the center of the tourist area and where Buenos Aires resembles Europe in many corners or cafes.
Attached to the cemetery is the Basilica Nuestra Señora del Pilar, which is the part of the old Recoletos Convent (from which the name of the neighborhood comes). In front of it stands the Plaza Francia: a green area, which on weekends is dressed as a craft fair to the delight of locals and foreigners, with musical shows and great cultural activity.
In this area we can also visit the Recoleta Cultural Center, with traveling exhibitions. The Palais de Glace is a splendid cultural palace, where works of art, music or cinema are exhibited. Buenos Aires Design, a complex where furniture, decoration and design combine a visit not to be missed. The Museum of Fine Arts is another must-see, with excellent works by local artists and great painters such as Goya, Monet or Rembrandt.
Heading north, we go into the Recoleta parks, where we find the Public Library, with an amazing and modern construction. The Sculpture of La Rosa, a new mobile sculpture, more than 20 meters high, that closes and opens depending on the sun. The MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires), also new in the city, offers from its architecture to its exhibitions and samples, a more than interesting option to visit.
It is also a neighborhood for shopping, along Alvear Avenue, or Santa Fe Avenue, we find the most distinguished brands, bookstores and art collectors. Undoubtedly, Recoleta represents a part of the city, the Europeanized part, the upper class, which also contains that part that the porteño likes to show of his city. An unmissable experience.
