Quinta de Presa, a country mansion, mistakenly called Palacio de la Perricholi, was the ancestral home of the aristocratic family Carrillo de Albornoz and Bravo de Lagunas Marqueses de Montemar and Monteblanco, it was built in the 18th century, outside the perimeter of the old walls from Lima, on the other side of the Rímac River. The property is in the French Baroque or Rococo style, adapted to the climate of the capital and the conditions of the construction materials. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1972
It was affected in use to the Housing Bank, which through an agreement with the National Institute of Culture began the restoration, making it possible to show the French-style style -in game rooms, dining rooms and chapel- that made it famous. It has been the National Headquarters of the Regiment of Infantry Gendarmes, ´´Guardia Republicana del Perú´´ and headquarters of the Viceregal Art Museum.
Closed to the public.
Address: Jr. Chira 344.
In no work of civil architecture in Lima is the French influence better expressed than in this Creole version of a small chateau. It was the residence of Don Pedro Carrillo de Albornoz, a colonel in the royal army.
It is the most eloquent example of an 18th century Rococo country villa.
The area of the house, garden and mill is just over 15,000 square meters. The materials used in its construction were adobe, brick, stone, fine woods and tiles.
The house is reached by a staircase that rises over a beautiful passage of water. All in stone. A corridor runs along the wide façade where the doors, windows and balconies are symmetrically placed.
On the ground floor there are a good number of divisions. To the left of the front door is a solid staircase. On the upper floor there is a comfortable corridor that offers a panoramic view of the entire complex. There are various rooms such as living rooms, bedrooms, a desk and an oratory.
The garden is large and limited by a brick wall in the shape of arches.
In colonial times, the people of Lima used to go on Sunday excursions around the Quinta. This custom was maintained until well into the Republic.
