During the Spanish Viceroyalty, the school was called Real Colegio De San Carlos and it housed illustrious students such as Belgrano, Saavedra, Moreno, Paso, Las Heras, Dorrego and Rivadavia, among others. The magnificent Church of San Ignacio, with Baroque architecture, was built by the Jesuits, completed in 1722 and is the oldest in the City of Buenos Aires. Another attraction on the block is in the mysterious tunnels that were dug in the foundations of the Monserrat neighborhood in the 18th century. It is assumed that they had a defensive utility, although it is not ruled out that they have served for smuggling. According to the theories of those who studied and traveled, these tunnels linked the Cabildo, and / or the Cathedral with the Churches, whose towers acted as mangrullos.Nowadays it is a cultural center where you can see cinema, theater, shows for children. , exhibitions of plastic arts, attend courses and workshops, buy items at the craft fair.
